Oil prices jump after attack in Saudi Arabia

President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States is “locked and loaded” to respond to the bombings of two Saudi energy facilities. The drone attacks on Saturday hit a major oil processing plant in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, halving the kingdom’s oil production rates. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility, but satellite imagery showed the drones came from either Iran or Iraq.

All parties guilty in Yemeni conflict

International | UN investigators call for arms restrictions and an inquiry into rights violations

Several Western nations, including the United States, are likely complicit actors in the civil war in Yemen that sparked the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, the United Nations said last week. The investigation also accused both sides in the conflict of atrocities in the targeting of civilians.

The report by a group of experts on Yemen within the UN Human Rights Council involved more than 600 interviews with victims and witnesses.

Afghanistan peace talks on hold

President Donald Trump said he canceled a secret meeting scheduled for Sunday with Taliban leaders and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at Camp David. The United States put peace talks on hold with the Taliban and recalled special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad after the extremist group intensified attacks in Afghanistan.
