International | Protestant church in the Netherlands ends 96-day service to protect migrant family

A church in the Netherlands last week ended a collaborative 96-day worship service it started to protect a refugee family. The Dutch governing coalition agreed last Tuesday to reassess the family’s case, along with those of 700 children who were raised in the country as their parents sought asylum.

U.S., allies demand elections to end Venezuelan crisis

The struggle for control of Venezuela turned to the military over the weekend. Supporters of the U.S.-backed leader, Juan Guaidó, distributed leaflets to soldiers detailing a proposed amnesty law that would protect them if they helped remove embattled President Nicolás Maduro from power. Maduro, meanwhile, appeared on state TV in tan fatigues, observing military exercises and talking with soldiers.

International | United States stays out of far-reaching global migration accord

More than 160 United Nations member states last week signed a first-of-its-kind accord to improve the treatment and safety of migrants around the world.

Several nations, including the United States, abstained from the agreement over concerns it would infringe on their sovereignty.
