Immigrants who came to the United States illegally as children received a temporary victory from the U.S. Supreme Court Thursday: In a 5-4 decision, the high court ruled the Trump administration cannot shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in the immediate future.

Trump calls on governors to reopen churches

President Donald Trump on Friday called churches, synagogues, and mosques “essential,” insisting that governors allow them to reopen this weekend. He also said he’d “override” state leaders if they didn’t follow his instructions. During a trip to Michigan on Thursday, the president said he instructed federal health officials to release guidance to help churches reopen. “They’re going to be issuing something today or tomorrow on churches,” he said, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “We got to get our churches open.”

D-Day heroes honored on 75th anniversary

Leaders and veterans from around the world assembled on the beaches of Normandy, France, on Thursday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion that led to the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron delivered addresses at the Normandy American Cemetery, where more than 9,000 U.S. soldiers are buried. The ceremony honored the American veterans who landed in France as the guests of honor.
