If you’re still not convinced that our culture is rapidly declining and common sense is becoming a scarce commodity, you might change your mind after reading this. At Sunday’s Miss USA pageant, contestant Nia Sanchez (Miss Nevada), who won the title, was asked about sexual assaults on college campuses. A fourth-degree black belt in tae kwon do, Sanchez said it’s important to make people more aware of the issue so women “can learn how to protect themselves. … [Y]ou need to be confident and be able to defend yourself.”

Former Covenant Life Church leader convicted of child molestation

A Maryland jury found Nathaniel Morales guilty of five counts of child molestation today, bringing to a close a case that highlighted the responsibility church leaders have to report suspected abuse to the police.

The five-man, seven-woman jury found the former pastor guilty of molesting three teenage boys in the late 1980s and early ’90s. Morales, 56, faces up to 85 years in prison. His sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 14.

More than a month after stepping down as president of the ministry he founded, Bill Gothard released a statement that attempts to respond to allegations of sexual impropriety that ultimately led to his resignation from the Institute for Basic Life Principles (IBLP).
