At least 20 students killed in northeast Nigeria

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP)—Assailants shot and stabbed to death at least 20 students in the second attack suspected to be carried out by Islamist extremists on colleges in Nigeria's troubled northeast in the last few days, authorities said Tuesday.

Some of the victims of Monday night's attack were shot and others were killed with knives just outside the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, a college in the town of Mubi, said a rescue official who is not allowed to speak to press on the issue. He said that at least 20 corpses had been found.

Explosive attack on Kenya church kills one child

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP)—The acting police chief in Kenya's capital says an explosive device set off in a Sunday school class killed one child and seriously wounded three.

Moses Ombati said he suspects sympathizers with the Somali militant group al-Shabab were behind the attack at an Anglican church in Nairobi.

Kenya has seen a series of attacks on churches ever since Kenyan forces moved into Somalia to fight al-Shabab last year. Kenyan forces kicked the rebels out of their last stronghold, Kismayo, on Friday.
