European court upholds refugee relocations

The European Court of Justice on Wednesday dismissed efforts by Hungary and Slovakia to receive exemptions from the European Union’s refugee relocation program. A majority of EU states in 2015 agreed to relocate some 120,000 refugees from Greece and Italy over two years, but only 24,000 people have been moved. Hungary and Poland rejected the plan, while Slovakia only accepted a handful of its allotment.

Europe, Africa to work together on migration crisis

International | Seven countries agreed on border controls and increasing legal migration options

The leaders of seven European and African nations on Monday agreed to tighten border controls and grant asylum to vulnerable migrants in response to the crisis of persistent illegal migration across the Mediterranean Sea.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the summit as the most effective and far-reaching in months and called the migration crisis a “problem that concerns us all and that cannot be solved without us all.”
