Seattle to shut down protest zone

The Seattle mayor on Monday encouraged the protesters camping around Cal Anderson Park to pack up. Demonstrators declared an occupied protest zone covering several city blocks after the police boarded up the East Precinct in Capitol Hill two weeks ago. Mayor Jenny Durkan said the city was working to return the blocks to normal, and the police will soon move back into the precinct.

Noose found in Bubba Wallace’s NASCAR garage

Just before NASCAR’s first race after banning Confederate flags at its tracks, a crew member found a noose in the garage of the driver who pushed for the change. Bubba Wallace is the only full-time African American driver in the racing organization. The FBI, the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department, and federal prosecutors are investigating the Sunday incident at Wallace’s garage stall at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.

Louisville to fire officer involved in shooting

Officer Brett Hankison violated procedure when he “wantonly and blindly fired 10 rounds into the apartment of Breonna Taylor,” interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said in a letter released on Friday. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said the chief was taking steps to fire Hankison, and the city distributed the letter describing the accusations against the officer.
