North Korean leader headed to Russia

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will attend a summit in Russia with President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, a Kremlin adviser confirmed Tuesday. Yuri Ushakov told Russian news agencies that the talks would focus on North Korea’s nuclear program and that Russia would like to see “positive trends” in that area, including a commitment not to test ballistic missiles. The two leaders are also likely to discuss economic interests between the two communist countries.

North Korea tests new weapon

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday reportedly oversaw the testing of a new “tactical guided weapon” following failed denuclearization talks with the United States earlier this year. North Korea’s Academy of Defense Science carried out the unspecified weapon testing, the first recorded since November 2018, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Activity spotted at North Korean nuclear site

Satellite images taken last week at North Korea’s major nuclear site signal efforts to process radioactive material into bomb fuel, a U.S.-based think tank said Tuesday. The images taken Friday of the Yongbyon nuclear research facility showed five specialized railcars near the uranium enrichment facility and the radiochemistry laboratory, the Center for Strategic and International Studies said.
