North Korea continues missile tests

One day after announcing upcoming nuclear talks with the United States, North Korea fired a ballistic missile from the sea into Japan’s exclusive offshore economic zone on Wednesday. A North Korean missile has not come that close to Japan since November 2017. South Korean military officials suggested but did not confirm North Korea launched the missile from a submarine.

U.S., North Korea to reopen nuclear talks

After a monthslong hiatus, diplomats from North Korea and the United States will sit down to negotiate this weekend at an undisclosed location. In February, the two sides halted all talks about North Korea ending its nuclear weapons program after an unsuccessful summit between U.S President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, Vietnam.

A week set aside to remember the victims of Afghanistan’s 18-year civil war opened with bad news: Peace talks between the United States and the Taliban failed. On Sept. 7, President Donald Trump announced that all chances of a deal with the Taliban were “dead” following multiple attacks that killed one U.S. soldier and many civilians.
