Some 600 migrants rescued at sea arrived Friday in Sicily, one of the largest influxes since Italy struck a deal with Libyan authorities to limit migrant smuggling. The German nongovernmental organization SOS Mediterranee rescued the migrants, including many unaccompanied minors, in seven operations over 36 hours. The number of people fleeing to Italy from Libya dropped dramatically over the summer after the Italian government provided local militias with equipment and money to stop migrant boats at sea.
