Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday enacted the most extensive stay-at-home order yet in the coronavirus pandemic. India’s 1.3 billion residents are not permitted to leave their homes for 21 days.

Europe tightens coronavirus lockdowns

Of the more than 15,000 COVID-19 deaths around the world, more than a third are in Italy. The country on Sunday banned movement across municipalities except for health needs or other urgent reasons. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday threatened to enact “tougher measures” after people gathered at parks and beaches over the weekend. Germany banned gatherings of more than two people for two weeks.

Italy’s death toll surpasses China’s

Despite having less than one-twentieth the population of China, Italy has seen more deaths from COVID-19. More than 3,400 people have succumbed to the disease in Italy, a country of 60 million people. China, which has a population of about 1.4 billion, had 3,248 deaths as of Friday.
