Clashes resume between Israel and Gaza

At least four people reportedly have died in clashes between Israeli warplanes and Palestinian militants that resumed overnight and continued into Thursday in the Gaza Strip. Israeli warplanes hit targets in the Gaza Strip, while Palestinians fired rockets into Israel. The Gaza Health Ministry reported the death of a Palestinian woman who was pregnant, her 1-year-old daughter, and a Hamas militant. Israeli authorities said at least seven people were injured in rocket attacks on their country.

UN condemns Israel, ignores Hamas

The UN General Assembly approved a resolution Wednesday blaming Israel for violence in Gaza and rejecting a U.S. demand to condemn the Palestinian militant group Hamas for its role in the conflict. In response to near-weekly protests since March 30 along the Israel-Gaza border, Israeli gunfire has killed more than 120 Palestinians and wounded more than 3,800. Israel insists it is protecting its border. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon told the UN assembly that Hamas was conducting “a violent assault on Israel” and aimed to seize its main cities of Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem.

Quiet in Gaza amid unofficial cease-fire

Rulers of the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Wednesday said they had reached a cease-fire with Israel through Egyptian mediators after the one of the worst days of violence in Gaza since the 2014 war. Israeli officials denied signing a cease-fire but said quiet would be met with quiet. “We’ve given Hamas a chance to prove that we can return to routine,” said Israeli Cabinet member Arieh Deri.
