Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum took back his concession in the Florida governor’s race Thursday after the margin between him and Republican Ron DeSantis narrowed with additional ballots counted. As of Friday morning, DeSantis had a mere .44 point lead, low enough to trigger a recount. The Florida Senate candidates are in a similar predicament, with just .18 points separating incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum conceded the Florida gubernatorial race Tuesday night to Republican former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis. With 99.5 percent of precincts reporting, DeSantis won about 76,000 more votes than his opponent. Gillum told a crowd gathered on the campus of Florida A&M University on Tuesday night he sincerely regretted he “couldn’t bring it home for you.”
Tallahassee, Fla., police said a 40-year-old man pretending to be a customer at a yoga studio shot two women and wounded several others Friday evening. Police said patrons at the studio fought back before suspect Scott Paul Beierle fatally shot himself. Authorities are still trying figure out why he mounted the deadly attack. Beierle had two previous arrests for grabbing women, police said. The two people he killed were identified as Florida State University student Maura Binkley and professor Nancy Van Vessem.
