Seven dead in Florida highway crash

A crash in Florida on Thursday involving two big rigs and two passenger vehicles killed seven people, including five children from a Louisiana church group, injured eight others, and sparked a massive fire after 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road. The accident on southbound Interstate 75 north of Gainesville closed part of the highway in both directions, and authorities did not open the southbound lanes until Friday morning. The fire was so intense it damaged the road.

WASHINGTON—After years of delays, persecuted religious minorities victimized by Islamic State (ISIS) in 2014 in Iraq and Syria are set to get some relief from the U.S. government.

Congress last week unanimously passed The Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act, designed to provide aid to Christians, Yazidis, Shia Muslims, and other religious minorities that underwent displacement and genocide at the hands of ISIS.

Republicans declared winners after Florida recount

Florida this weekend finished recounting its ballots, and Republicans emerged victorious in two big races with national implications. Incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson conceded Sunday in his race against Republican Gov. Rick Scott, who won by a little more than 10,000 votes out of about 8 million cast. “We must do what Americans have always done: come together for the good of our state and our country,” Scott said in a statement after the results became official.
