Penn State to pay out $60 million-plus to Sandusky victims

Penn State University will pay at least $60 million to the men who were sexually abused by the school’s former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. University trustee Ted Brown told The Associated Press that the school had reached tentative settlements with the men, although he noted the total amount to be paid may rise.

Chinese province targets unwed mothers

Government officials in Wuhan, part of central China’s Hubei province, released a new family policy Friday that targets and fines unwed mothers for bearing children out of wedlock. Although most provinces in China lump wedlock births with other unacceptable births, Wuhan is the first city to treat unwed mothers in a separate category. The public can comment on the policy for one week before it goes into effect.

An 18-year-old is accused of statutory rape with a 14-year-old schoolmate in the state of Florida. The catch: Both teenagers are girls, and the parents of 18-year-old Kaitlyn Hunt have rallied supporters claiming she is being punished for her same-sex relationship.

Having rejected a plea deal that would place Hunt under two years of house arrest and label her a sex offender, she now could face up to 15 years in prison for her two felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.
