Ryan, Sessions refuse to join attack on Rosenstein

UPDATE: House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said Thursday he did not support the articles of impeachment that 11 conservative lawmakers filed against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Ryan told reporters he didn’t think Rosenstein’s disputes with GOP House members about document requests met the constitutional standard for impeachment. Attorney General Jeff Sessions also defended his deputy Thursday, saying he had the highest confidence in Rosenstein.

Cohen shares tape of Trump discussing hush money

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former lawyer, has released a taped conversation in which he and Trump discuss a payment to keep secret news about an alleged affair between Trump and former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Cohen, who is under federal investigation for potentially breaking campaign finance laws, secretly recorded the conversation two months before the 2016 election. Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, gave the tape to CNN, which aired it Tuesday.

Records detail FBI snooping on Trump aide

Top-secret government documents released over the weekend show the FBI requested permission in October 2016 to wiretap a former aide to then-candidate Donald Trump. Despite major redactions, the records show the FBI believed at the time that Carter Page had “been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government.” Page told CNN on Sunday he did not know the Russians named in the secret application for the wiretapping warrant, which was approved under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA. The wiretapping has been the subject of partisan clashes for months.
