WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, told The New York Times on Tuesday that during the 2016 presidential campaign he paid $130,000 of his own money to a pornographic film actress who claimed to have had an affair with Trump in 2006.

Sessions questioned in Russia probe

WASHINGTON—Attorney General Jeff Sessions answered hours of questions from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team last week, the Justice Department confirmed Tuesday. Sessions’ cooperation with the investigation into possible Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election is the first known instance of a Cabinet member’s being questioned. Mueller assumed leadership of the Russia investigation shortly after President Donald Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey, a decision the president said at the time was based on a recommendation from Sessions.

Lawmakers say Bannon kept quiet in Russia probe

WASHINGTON—Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon met with the House Intelligence Committee for its ongoing Russia inquiry Tuesday, but he answered few questions, according to lawmakers at the meeting. Bannon and his attorneys met with the panel for more than 10 hours behind closed doors. The panel subpoenaed him to testify, but the former confidant of the president refused to answer some questions, citing a request from the White House not to speak about his time in the administration. “This was effectively a gag order by the White House,” said Rep.
