Historic flyby offers clues to planetary formation

A snowman-shaped object far beyond Pluto is breaking new ground in scientists’ understanding of our solar system. New data suggests two smaller objects merged slowly over time, rather than colliding, to form the planetesimal named Arrokoth, the team behind NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft said at a meeting in Seattle on Thursday.

Google Maps captures corny proposal

When Steffen Schwarz proposed marriage to his girlfriend, he didn’t intend his message to go out to a worldwide audience. The 32-year-old part-time farmer planted his cornfield in Huettenberg, Germany, to spell out “Do you want to marry me?” in German and convinced his girlfriend to fly a drone overhead last May to see it.

Senate passes Iran war powers resolution

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Senate voted 55-45 to admonish President Donald Trump for the airstrike in Iraq that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. The resolution rebukes the president for taking military action without first seeking the approval of Congress and says lawmakers must authorize any further offensives.
