Muslim congresswoman says she won’t visit Israel

Israel offered to let U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib into the occupied West Bank to visit her 90-year-old grandmother, but the congresswoman declined Friday because of conditions placed on her visit. “Visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions meant to humiliate me would break my grandmother’s heart,” the Democrat who represents a district in Michigan, said in a statement. Israel did not want Tlaib promoting boycotts of it in protest of the treatment of Palestinians there.

Greenland says it’s not for sale

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump has repeatedly discussed the idea of the United States acquiring Greenland with advisers and allies, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The icy, semiautonomous Danish territory is the world’s largest island. Sources that have talked to the president about it say he wasn’t really serious about buying Greenland, but he brought it up enough times that it made them wonder.

U.K. frees Iranian tanker despite U.S. objections

The British territory of Gibraltar is releasing an Iranian oil tanker over which the United States requested control. The ship and its crew were seized six weeks ago on grounds they were carrying oil to Syria in violation of an international embargo. In retaliation, Iran captured a British oil tanker, the Stena Impero, on July 19 in the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
