More cities and states tighten coronavirus restrictions

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti urged residents to not share Thanksgiving with people outside of their household. California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he’s pulling the “emergency brake” on plans to reopen the state’s economy after daily COVID-19 cases in the state doubled in the span of just 10 days. The new statewide rules will halt indoor worship and force most indoor businesses to close or operate at a fraction of capacity. Newsom said he is also strengthening a mask requirement effective Tuesday and is considering a curfew on business hours.

Who else is looking at more rules? The state of Michigan and the City of Philadelphia are putting similar measures in place. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that the state is imposing a new indoor gathering cap of 10 people. Delaware is also limiting indoor gatherings. And Iowa and Pennsylvania have widened their mask requirements.

It would be helpful to hear how many more tests are being administered nationally now than previously. There is no doubt in my mind that the record number of reported cases are due to a record number of tests being done--and not just on symptomatic patients. In my state of Oregon, free testing was offered for the first time in the last couple weeks, motivating many to get tested, sick or not--after all, it's free, right? (Your tax dollars at work.) And since the definition of a bona fide "case" has been changed for the first time in history to include everyone with a positive test, regardless of the presence of symptoms, the significance of case numbers are inflated. Add to that the fact that one TYPE of test that is being used--the PCR or molecular test--was never intended as a diagnostic tool, and can be cycled repeatedly until one gets a positive result, with no current standardizing of the cycle threshold to determine if the viral load is significant. The devil is in the details. Our government leaders are not doing due diligence with the facts, shackling the American people and doing irreparable harm to businesses. World should be holding their feet to the fire with more probing questions. Where does it say in the Constitution that the government can indefinitely suspend our freedom of assembly and worship? What better way to destroy our families and national identity than to invade our homes and keep us from observing Thanksgiving together!
