U.S. men’s soccer loses shot at World Cup

The U.S. men’s soccer team fell out of World Cup contention Tuesday night with a surprising 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago, ending a run of seven straight appearances in the international soccer showcase. The U.S. team, ranked 28th in the world by FIFA, only needed to tie the game against its 99th-ranked opponent to win a World Cup berth, but scoring in its own goal in the 17th minute sent the Americans down the path to defeat. “You can go around in circles a million times over again, but the reality is that it was all there for us and we have nobody to blame but ourselves,” U.S. captain Michael Bradley said.
