Trump ventures out of treatment

President Donald Trump stepped out of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in a black SUV Sunday to wave to supporters who had gathered outside the clinic. Secret Service agents inside the vehicle donned masks and other protective gear. The short trip caused some concern as Trump is still infected and contagious after he tested positive for the coronavirus Thursday.

How is he recuperating? Dr. Sean Conley said Trump had a “high fever” and his blood oxygen level fell below 94 percent on Friday as well as on Saturday, but has now returned to a normal range. Along with an experimental antibody treatment and the antiviral medication remdesivir, Trump has also been given the steroid dexamethasone, which is typically only recommended for severe cases. Conley did not comment on whether the president has any lung damage but said he continued to improve and could be discharged to the White House as early as Monday. Joe Biden’s campaign said the Democratic presidential nominee again tested negative for the coronavirus Sunday.

Dig deeper: Read Dr. Charles Horton’s report on dexamethasone.

I have to agree. Anyone who tests positive for COVID is supposed to quarantine for the allotted time span. Quarantine means isolation from everyone. Meeting soldiers and first responders in the hospital? Taking a joy ride in a car? Come on. Stay inside. Stay in your room. I wish President Trump and his wife a speedy recovery, but this is blatant recklessness. I'm watching members of his team coming back with positive tests after seven months of this, and I wonder what is happening.
