Fiery former Phoenix-area Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who made national headlines for his aggressive enforcement of laws against illegal immigrants, was found guilty of misdemeanor contempt of court Monday. A judge ruled Arpaio knowingly violated a 2011 court order to stop traffic patrols targeting illegal immigrants because they racially profiled Latinos. Arpaio kept up the patrols and openly discussed his defiance in public. “Not only did defendant abdicate responsibility, he announced to the world and to his subordinates that he was going to continue business as usual no matter who said otherwise,” U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton wrote. Arpaio’s attorneys said they plan to appeal the verdict.

There's ample evidence the majority of US citizens believe we need much better security of our borders, and stricter control of who enters our Nation. Yet we've seen our national leaders allow only token measures to secure our borders, particularly the border with Mexico. We've seen the tragic results of allowing even deported felons to return to commit crimes.

President Trump's election is one result of the electorate's displeasure with the way our elected officials have ignored the wishes of their constituents.

Now we see that an elected Sheriff, who is determined to do his part to control illegal border crossings, is slapped down by courts whose sympathies apparently lie with the illegals, not Citizens.

    Shame!
