Police shooting prompts international reaction

Australian media are expressing dismay over the police shooting of an Australian national in Minneapolis. The front-page headline in a Sydney newspaper Tuesday morning read “AMERICAN NIGHTMARE,” and news reports characterized the United States as dangerous and gun-infested. Justine Damond died after police shot her Saturday night for unknown reasons. Damond had called 911 to report what she believed was an ongoing sexual assault. Police have not released details of the shooting, but the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide. Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting. In a statement Monday, the bureau said it would release more information once officers have been interviewed.
