Former Atlanta Police Officer Garrett Rolfe will face felony murder and 10 other charges after shooting and killing a man fleeing arrest in the back, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced on Wednesday. Prosecutors are charging Officer Devin Brosnan, who was also present, with aggravated assault and other crimes. The Atlanta Police Department already fired Rolfe and placed Brosnan on administrative leave.

What led to the charges? The two officers, who are white, responded to a call on Friday night after Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old African American man, fell asleep in his car blocking a Wendy’s drive-thru lane. Video evidence shows the two officers questioned Brooks for more than 40 minutes and gave him a field sobriety test, which he failed. When Rolfe attempted to arrest Brooks by handcuffing him, he struggled, and the altercation escalated. Brooks then grabbed Brosnan’s stun gun and ran away. When Brooks appeared to fire the stun gun at the officers, Rolfe shot him. Howard said Rolfe then kicked Brooks while he was on the ground, and Brosnan stood on his shoulder before he died.

It looks like a strategy to a) keep the media and such off their backs for now, and b) get a conviction on a lesser charge, one which they would be less likely to get without a greater charge to throw away. The games we play at the government level are beyond wearisome. Having sown the wind for a long time, it appears we are now reaping the whirlwind.

And these charges have been put in place without the Georgia Bureau of Investigation having completed their investigation.  The police officers are not even being afforded due process.   Mob rule seems to have overtaken the conviction and courage of politicians such as D.A., Paul Howard.  My heart goes out to the family of the suspect and the two officers and their families as well.  How can justice be meted out in a climate such as the one we are experiencing?  This is just the beginning of what is to come.  I pray that hearts everywhere will quake with the knowledge of our own sin and find salvation in the only One God has provided, that being Jesus!

The officer gave him mouth to mouth res., asking him to breathe, trying to assist him.  Referred to him as Mr. Brooks.

why do you find it necessary to demean the police in every situation.  The police were very polite throughout, the attack by Brooks was the reason for his death.
