American church and political leaders are gathering online on Thursday for the 2020 National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme, “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth,” is based on Habakkuk 2:14: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

How has the pandemic changed the event? Instead of gathering in Washington, the National Day of Prayer Task Force will livestream the event from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT. Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) will make appearances, along with several pastors and evangelists. Southern Baptist Convention President J.D. Greear is also hosting an online prayer event at 2:30 p.m. EDT. President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on Wednesday and will make remarks in the White House Rose Garden at 4 p.m. EDT.
