Mueller says Trump ‘not exculpated’

WASHINGTON—During a congressional hearing Wednesday morning, former special counsel Robert Mueller contradicted President Donald Trump’s claims that the Russia investigation had put to rest concerns that the president obstructed justice. In a three-hour meeting of the House Judiciary Committee, Mueller affirmed the conclusions of his two-year investigation, which found that the Trump campaign did not conspire with the Russians to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential election but made no judgment on whether the president might have committed crimes by attempting to interfere with the inquiry. At one point, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., asked Mueller directly whether he had exonerated the president of obstruction of justice. “No,” Mueller said, adding that Trump “was not exculpated for the acts he allegedly committed.”

Democrats pushed for Mueller to testify, hoping his televised appearance would have a greater effect on the public’s view of the president than the release of the report itself. In his opening statement, Mueller noted that it “is unusual for a prosecutor to testify about a criminal investigation” and insisted his testimony would “necessarily be limited.” In response to lawmakers’ questions, Mueller frequently gave brief, one-word “yes” or “no” answers or referred members to what he had written in the report. He also said he would not answer questions “outside my purview.” Along those lines, Mueller refused to answer Republican lawmakers’ questions regarding the origins of the Russia investigation, saying it started before he came on as special counsel. He also declined to say whether any of the president’s conduct was “impeachable.”

Minutes before the hearing began, Trump took to Twitter to offer his version of events, calling Mueller “highly conflicted” and tweeting “NO COLLUSION, NO OBSTRUCTION!”

Mueller will appear before the House Intelligence Committee for a second hearing Wednesday afternoon.

In other words, Mueller couldn't find any evidence, but he knows he's guilty.

At least, that’s the conclusion the Trump-haters have reached.

Nothing that wasn't already covered, really.  Mueller stuck to what was in his report and didn't make any insinuations or assertions outside of what he he could reasonably and legally say--basically nothing that wasn't already down on paper for people to read.  The Report never exonerated Trump; at this point it should surprise no one that Trump tweeted something wrong.  Didn't indict him either.  It left some key decisions up to Barr, who elected not to pursue them.  That was wrong, in my view, but Mueller didn't weigh one way or the other.  Mueller's a professional, and all the mudslinging that's gone on over a war hero who led the FBI for 12 years is a disgrace to an American political system.

Mueller looked like a tired old man who shouldn't have been in this position. Which leads me to conclude that Andrew Weissman was actually running the show. That explains a lot.

Let us suppose that a prosecutor brings forward a charge of rape against a man. There is no evidence found against the man, let alone any basis to bring forward the charges except based on his political enemies made up dossier. In examining the case, a judge inquires about why the charges were brought forward by the prosecutor.

“Why did you bring forward the charges sir? There is no basis for the charges, and not even a victim that we can identify!”

The prosecutor replies, “Well we didn’t find any evidence but that doesn’t exhonorate him from the crime! There could be someone out there who he raped but we need to keep looking! And besides he obstructed justice by vehemently claiming that he didn’t commit the crime. Give me more time and I think I can find a victim!”

”I am sorry the judge replies but this isn’t how our system works! You need a basis to bring forward a charge with concrete evidence. Without that you have no case and the charges are without merit. How can someone obstruct justice when there is no basis for the charges? Get out of here and don’t come back!”

The statement about exhonoration made by Mueller is pure political hype because it is impossible to prove a negative! Mueller knows this but used it anyway showing him to be the political animal he really is! He was friends of Comey and appointed by Comey to sweep the past corruption under the rug! Mueller was all involved in Clinton’s and Obama’s corruption and he appointed all Democrats with conflicting interests to protect Hillary and Obama. Ironically, they allowed these people on the commission while they talked Sessions (the former AG) to recuse himself from the case! Mueller played the role of a conservative to enable the Democrats to claim that they were acting politically neutral while all along he did the bidding of Hillary, Obama and the Democrats!
