The resounding failure of Iowa’s Democratic caucuses is still reverberating locally and nationally more than a week later. Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price announced his resignation on Wednesday. “The fact is that Democrats deserved better than what happened on caucus night,” he said.

What reason did Price give for leaving? Price said he believed it would be difficult for the state’s Democratic Party to “begin looking forward” while he remained chairman. Technical glitches and a dayslong delay in reporting results marred the caucus, which was supposed to jumpstart the overall efforts of Democrats to oust President Donald Trump in November’s general election. Price’s resignation becomes effective Saturday after the state party holds an emergency meeting to elect a replacement.
