Hong Kong leader booed off stage

Opposition lawmakers heckled and shouted over Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam as she tried to deliver her annual policy speech to the Legislative Council on Wednesday. After two tries, Lam opted to give her address via a video recording instead.

What spurred the disruption? Pro-democracy lawmakers shouted “five demands, not one less,” as they called for the same reforms protesters have requested since June. They include the formal withdrawal of an extradition bill and calls for universal suffrage. On Wednesday, protesters also trampled and burned LeBron James jerseys. The NBA star who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers said Monday that Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey, who showed support for the Hong Kong protesters in a tweet earlier this month, “wasn’t educated on the situation.”
