Congress certifies Biden’s win

After the U.S. Capitol faced a day of violent unrest, Congress early on Thursday confirmed Joe Biden as the next president of the United States. The Senate and House had reconvened after 8 p.m. on Wednesday once police secured the building with the help of the National Guard. “Criminal behavior will never dominate the United States Congress,” Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told the Senate. “This institution is resilient.” The legislators worked into the early morning hours to certify that Biden secured 306 electoral votes to President Donald Trump’s 232 votes. Challenges against the votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania both failed. Some GOP senators who had said they would accept efforts to overturn the results from key swing states changed their minds after the rioting. “The events that have transpired today have forced me to reconsider,” said Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., who was defeated in a runoff election in Georgia the day before.

What comes next? Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in at noon on Jan. 20. In a statement released by social media aide Dan Scavino, Trump said “there will be an orderly transition,” although he still objected to the election’s outcome. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram locked Trump’s accounts over policy violations.

I was sad for Vice President Mike Pence, yet also awed by his courtesy and restraint throughout the process. After reading his letter to the Joint Session of Congress, I greatly respect him for the godly man that he is. His concluding paragraph shines with light in the darkness. Mike Pence’s Letter to Congress – READ IN FULL - Liberty Nation

CNN was on hand to call an "insurrection" before it happened. (I watched the video.) He looked like he was connected to Antifa that just happened to show up in a bus. Antifa is ALWAYS there when conservatives have a rally. All of a sudden there was a rush. People were pushed toward the capital. I guess people like Nadler who call Antifa a myth knew what was going to happen. But CNN never mentioned Antifa. The media blamed it all on Trump supporters.

Trump supporters were there to support Trump. Again, Trump and people who support him have literally been given the ANTIFA RUSH.

Nadler had a letter that his group had already signed calling for an impeachment. The letter was AMAZINGLY ready BEFORE the "insurrection" happened.

I am so tired of the DC swamp, which it seems Pence has been duped into joining.

I hope McConnell gets what he wanted.

News2me, we have agreed on many things in this forum called World News Group. I believe that the events of January 6 were carefully orchestrated for a false narrative. I believe that our nation is going down a dark road, and we must be prepared to suffer greatly in the manner of Habakkuk. However, I also believe, from reading his letter to Congress, that Vice President Mike Pence has not been duped into joining the DC swamp. He has my admiration and respect for providing an example of how to travel that dark road with the light of Almighty God.

    Hannah,

    I'm sure you're right.

He has had a tough time of it, as have many others who have tried to help Trump while he TRIED to do the right thing.

We have always wondered just how close we are to what comes next. Death does not scare me, but I don't like pain and don't want to be put out of my home because people have decided on revenge. I haven't figured out what their cause for revenge could be.

I'm keeping my eye on Israel to see what Biden, controlled by people like Ilhan, does next. She got lots of pork for Pakistan in the latest pork payout. I'm sure they will spend it on whatever they want and not what Congress claims it's for. All that PORK?!

2020 is the year I mostly stopped reading World.  I still subscribe and glance over daily emails, but on covid and the election, World has become barely distinguishable from mainstream media.  Disappointing.

My subscription ends in February, and I will not be renewing. I'll be viewing other news sites, peeking in here occasionally to see the perspective of the Associated Press. Eventually, once I'm no longer a World member, I will not be able to comment. (And I can hear the cheers from some quarters.)

Oh my, I was just thinking the same thing today. Because World gets a lot of their news from Associated Press and I get much of my news from Townhall. It's not a Christian organization, but I feel that there is a lot of news that seems to be left out of World Mag., just like Mainstream News. Schlichter is the only one on Townhall who is out there in right field. He writes fiction books. I hope his fiction doesn't come true. It's very scarey.

My husband will make the call on World Mag. There is still a lot of Christian stuff to be gleaned from their magazine. I read an article recently about a documentary that was made about illegal immigrants. It was an eye-opener. The article in World is by Sharon Dierberger 11/21/20. The documentary is called "America's Forgotten."

True, News2me, (about there being "Christian stuff to be gleaned from [World] magazine"). I remember Sharon Dierberger's article about the eye-opening documentary on illegal immigrants. Perhaps when I've processed my grief over the past days' events, I'll consider more than a "guest" relationship with World News Group.

I'm impressed by Vice President Pence's position on the Electoral College vote count, his duties regarding that count, and the letter he wrote.

Pence may be considered a traitor by Trump's most extreme supporters, but Pence is definitely not a traitor to the American People or the Constitution.

And a note to GaryG, HANNAH, and NEWS2ME, and any others who are disappointed with World magazine:  no human institution can ever be perfect, and only disappointment can follow expectations of perfection. I think World is still the best at showing us news that's hard to find elsewhere, and with a viewpoint informed by the Lord and His Word rather than man's wisdom. And I believe this holds true even when World must use information sourced from non-Christians.

Thank You, World Reporters, Editors, and Staff!
