A gunman killed two people and left two others injured at a church in White Settlement, Texas, on Sunday. Armed congregants of West Freeway Church of Christ near Fort Worth shot and killed the attacker just seconds after he pulled a gun from a hoodie and opened fire.
How has the community responded? Law enforcement officers and politicians praised the church’s volunteer security team. If they hadn’t acted so swiftly, “we would have had many more lives lost today and had many more serious injuries,” Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said. Officials also credited state laws that allow weapons in churches. Tiffany Wallace, whose father, deacon Anton Wallace, died during the shooting, expressed grief and shock but said, “I forgive [the gunman], and that’s that hardest thing to say.”
