At least six people died when an Amtrak train derailed from an overpass Monday morning south of Seattle, spilling train cars onto Interstate 5 below. Seventy-eight passengers and five crew members were aboard as the train made its first-ever run along a new, faster route. The train struck vehicles on I-5 when it derailed, but all of those killed were train passengers. The death toll is expected to rise. The new route was designed to bypass an existing line and speed up service between Seattle and Portland, Ore. Some people reported the train appeared to have struck an object before derailing, though they didn't know what the object was. The train was traveling at more than 80 mph when the accident occurred.
