Clemson crushes Alabama in title game

Clemson easily defeated defending champion Alabama Monday night in the College Football Playoff championship game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. It was an unexpected blowout by the second-ranked Tigers, who crushed No. 1 Alabama 44-16. With the victory, Clemson became the first team in 121 years at college football’s highest level to finish a season 15-0.

“All the credit, all the glory goes to the good Lord number one, and number two, to these young people,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said afterward.

No surprises: It’s Alabama and Clemson in CFP title game

The stage is set for the College Football Playoff championship, with Alabama and Clemson facing off once again. The Crimson Tide knocked out the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday night in the Orange Bowl 45-34, while the Clemson Tigers earlier in the day crushed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 30-3 in the Cotton Bowl. The Tide will take on the Tigers next Monday in Santa Clara, Calif. It will be the fourth consecutive year in which those two teams have met in the playoffs, the third time in the title game.

USA Gymnastics files for bankruptcy

USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy Wednesday in an effort to fight the loss of its Olympic status. The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced in November it no longer wanted USA Gymnastics to oversee Olympic team training and selection because of its mishandling of numerous sexual abuse claims against team doctor Larry Nassar, who is in jail, effectively for life, after being found guilty of multiple charges of molesting young athletes under the guise of medical care.
