A federal appeals court shortly before Christmas blocked a California ban on “reparative therapy,”  giving concerned parents the right, for now, to seek counsel for a child with homosexual tendencies.

The first-of-its-kind ban would have gone into effect yesterday, before a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an emergency order putting the law on hold until the court can hear full arguments on the measure’s constitutionality.

A Michigan college that lost its fight to expel a Christian counseling student over her beliefs about homosexuality has agreed to settle the case.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) announced earlier this week it would not appeal the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling issued in January. As part of an agreement to dismiss the case, the school paid Julea Ward $75,000.

Hardy supporters reinstated a World War I memorial cross in the Mojave Desert on Veterans Day—after a 13-year battle over the constitutionality of a religious symbol on federal ground.

More than 100 people showed up for the ceremony—including cross caretakers Henry and Wanda Sandoz, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), attorneys from the Liberty Institute, and an honor guard.

It has been a decade since 68-year-old Wanda Sandoz last saw the 6-foot-tall pipe cross standing out in the sparse Mojave Desert Preserve in Cima, Calif., a memorial to the fallen soldiers of World War I. She remembers when she used to pass by the landmark four times a day when she was a school bus driver.

“I loved seeing it there, and I’m glad that I’d already retired when the box went on it,” she said, referring to the plywood container that covered the cross for eight years before the entire symbol was stolen in 2010.

Criswell College has sued the federal government, joining a growing number of faith-based schools and businesses objecting to the contraceptive mandate in what’s known as the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. 

Another campus Christian group is fighting claims of discrimination over its requirement that leaders share a common profession of faith.

The student-led judiciary at Tufts University, in Medford, Mass., voted last week to revoke official recognition for Tufts Christian Fellowship (TCF), the largest evangelical group on campus. Complaints from a group formed to challenge TCF's presence on campus prompted the judiciary's decision. Members of the Tufts Coalition Against Religious Exclusion accused TCF of violating the school's nondiscrimination policy.
