House broadens anti-Semitism resolution

WASHINGTON—The House of Representatives passed a resolution Thursday condemning all forms of hatred and bigotry by a 407-23 vote. The resolution originally rebuked anti-Semitism in response to controversial comments by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. But after days of contention and debate, lawmakers expanded the resolution to cover all forms of racism.

Cohen sues Trump Organization

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, sued the Trump Organization on Thursday for legal fees he claims he is owed. Cohen said the organization broke his contract by refusing to pay around $1.9 million in legal costs after he began cooperating with a federal investigation. Cohen is also seeking an additional $1.9 million for fees he incurred after pleading guilty to breaking campaign finance laws, tax evasion, and lying to Congress. He is expected to begin a three-year prison sentence in May.

WASHINGTON—After the 2018 midterm elections handed Democrats control of the House of Representatives, President Donald Trump warned lawmakers in his State of the Union address last month that “if there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation.”

But the applause had barely faded before House Democrats started flexing their oversight power. So far, nearly every House committee has opened, or plans to open, an investigation into some aspect of Trump’s world.
