Democratic AGs sue Trump over DACA

WASHINGTON—Fifteen states and the District of Columbia filed a joint lawsuit against the Trump administration on Wednesday, challenging its decision to wind down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Bob Ferguson and Eric Schneiderman, Democratic state attorneys general for Washington and New York, respectively, spearheaded the effort.

Trump sends mixed messages on DACA

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration late Tuesday said it was open to revisiting an Obama-era policy sheltering thousands of illegal immigrants, after condemning the program earlier in the day. Hours after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration would wind down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program over a six-month period, President Donald Trump seemed to change his mind.

Trump plans to rescind DACA in six months

WASHINGTON—Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on Tuesday the Trump administration will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, winding it down over the next six-months. President Barack Obama created the DACA program in 2012 to postpone deportation for certain non-citizens brought to the United States illegally as children. “If we are to further our goal of strengthening the constitutional order and the rule of law in America, the Department of Justice cannot defend this overreach,” Sessions said.
