International | Migrants on a Greek island have nowhere to go

On the island of Lesbos, migrants in sleeping bags, small tents, and on blankets lined a coastal road between the now-gutted Moria refugee camp and the Greek town of Mytilene. Others sought makeshift shelter in parking lots, fields, and even a cemetery after the camp burned down last week. “They need to evacuate the island to get people to dignified accommodation,” said Josie Naughton, CEO of the aid group Help Refugees.

Attack kills World Vision worker in Congo

International | Two others taken hostage and released in war-torn area

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: Armed attackers in eastern Congo killed an aid worker with U.S.-based World Vision and held two others hostage on Wednesday. Their convoy came under attack as the group returned from delivering food to war-ravaged communities in North Kivu province.

Coronavirus surges in Europe

The 53 countries that make up the World Health Organization’s European region have confirmed more than 300,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past week. More than half of the countries reported a 10 percent or greater jump in new infections in the past two weeks. Of those, seven saw a more than two-fold increase. Dr. Hans Kluge, the WHO’s European director, called it “a wake-up call for all of us.”
