Sexuality | Survey finds marital bliss belongs to the sexually exclusive

Americans reporting only one lifetime sexual partner have the happiest marriages, according to analysis published this week by the Institute for Family Studies.

Nicholas Wolfinger, sociologist at the University of Utah, looked at results from almost 30 years of the General Social Survey, a nationwide survey funded by the National Science Foundation. It asks, among many things, detailed questions about sexual biographies and marital happiness.

Family | Britain extends civil partnerships to heterosexual couples

British Prime Minister Theresa May earlier this month said she would introduce legislation to allow civil partnerships for opposite-sex couples. The announcement followed a ruling by the United Kingdom’s highest court this summer that current policy unlawfully discriminates by allowing marriage or civil partnerships for same-sex couples but only marriage for opposite-sex couples.

Eugene Peterson receiving hospice care

Pastor and best-selling author Eugene Peterson is entering hospice care at the age of 85, his son Eric said in a widely circulated message to friends and family on Friday. Peterson’s contemporary English paraphrase of the Bible, The Message, became a bookshelf staple in Christian households in the 1990s. He translated The Message from the Bible’s original languages and said he wanted it to re-energize believers’ interest in the Scripture. After retiring from church work, Peterson served as a professor at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
