Religion | Episcopalians prepare to take their battles to the courtroom

Bishop William Swing of northern California came out swinging at last month's meeting of the Episcopal House of Bishops in Florida.

He led a group of 28 bishops to set up a 10-member committee of lawyers, bishops, and other leaders to get ready to go to the mat legally. Their task: to prevent congregations or dioceses that leave the Episcopal Church (ECUSA) from taking the church property and assets with them.

Astrip of wood fastened onto wheels is sport for some and transportation for others, but those who combine skateboarding with Christian teaching claim it can also serve as a vehicle for evangelism.

"Christ met physical needs," 43-year-old skateboarder Tom Fain says. "When He healed [people], it was for a physical need. But in that moment, He was able to speak to them in a spiritual aspect. That's what we're doing, using a physical thing to draw them in."
