Petite and full of explosive smiles, 70-year-old Shirley Adams breezed into a Chico, Calif., café one morning in September carrying a basket on her arm. Instead of ordering coffee, she marched up to a shelf on the back wall and began quietly re-stocking it with scarves, jewelry, and water bottles. 

“It’s for my organization, Bridging the Gap by Giving,” she said, eyes twinkling beneath a shock of curly blonde bangs. “We provide clean water in Africa.”

Are veggies more important than abducted children?

The Obama administration decided the government was too poor to alert the nation to child abductions, but flush enough to encourage children to eat more salad and swing a hula-hoop.

Until about noon EDT on Monday,, the website that alerts Americans to cases of abducted children, was out of commission. Meanwhile,—First Lady Michelle Obama’s website for encouraging kids to make better food choices—was alive and kicking.

Hobby Lobby's Hanukkah crisis

Hobby Lobby is under fire from the Jewish community for not carrying Hanukkah decorations or Bar-Mitzvah-related cards.  

The outrage began after blogger Ken Berwitz wrote about a Jewish friend’s recent experience in a Marlboro, N.J., Hobby Lobby store. The friend allegedly asked an employee where they kept their Hanukkah goods and Bar-Mitzvah cards. The employee responded, “We don’t cater to you people.”
