Televangelist Jan Crouch dies

Janice Crouch, known for billowy, pink-tinged wigs, ample eye makeup, and prosperity gospel televangelism, died today after suffering a stroke last week. She was 78.

In a post on their website, her son Matt and his wife Laurie wrote that they saw “her step into the presence of Jesus and into her heavenly reward. Jan Crouch, known around the world as Momma Jan, has gone home.”

Court blocks California hospital's attempt to end toddler's life support

A federal appeals court on Friday ruled the family of a toddler clinging to life in a California hospital could have more time to find a new facility to care for him. Doctors declared 2-year-old Israel Stinson brain dead after an asthma attack deprived him of oxygen last month. But his parents dispute his diagnosis and want to give him a chance to recover.

ACLU renews attack against Catholic hospitals over abortion

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is launching a renewed attack against religious hospitals, claiming they should not be allowed to base the care they provide on the dictates of their sincerely held beliefs.

In a report released this month, titled “Health Care Denied,” the ACLU targets Catholic hospitals, saying they jeopardize women’s lives because they “prohibit a range of reproductive health services,” including abortion, when something goes wrong during pregnancy.
