Bucket-List Books: The Temple by George Herbert

The Temple, a series of poems written by 17th century Anglican priest George Herbert, can be read as Herbert’s thoughts as he walks through his church. For example, the prologue is called “The Church Porch.” Once inside “The Church,” you’ll find “The Church Floore” and “The Windows” among the more lofty titles like “The Sacrifice.” Some poems are about simple beauties, some about the spiritual struggles and growth of Herbert, and others follow the grand story of the crucifixion itself.

Sudan's foreign minister suggests Meriam Ibrahim will be freed

Foreign leaders remain hopeful about the possibility of securing Meriam Ibrahim’s release from prison in Sudan. The Christian mother of two, who is married to an American, has been sentenced to death for refusing to recant her faith.

Sudan’s foreign minister said he hopes the country’s justice system will find a solution soon “to everyone’s satisfaction.” Ali Ahmed Karti is in Berlin this week for bilateral meetings. While he said Sudan’s government cannot interfere in the judicial process, he also urged Ibrahim to appeal her case.

Baptist missionary sentenced to lifetime of hard labor in North Korea

North Korea has sentenced South Korean Baptist missionary Kim Jung Wook (or Kim Jung Uk, according to North Korean spelling) to a lifetime of hard labor for alleged spying and trying to set up an underground church, according to state media.
