More college campus cops are carrying guns

Amid increased worries about school shootings and subsequent discussions on gun control, public universities are turning more and more toward arming campus police officers, according to a new Justice Department report. 

Among the 900 campuses surveyed, about two-thirds of public and private campuses had armed officers during the 2011-2012 school year, a 68 to 75 percent increase from the last survey conducted in 2004-2005.

Duke University cancels plans to broadcast Muslim call-to-prayer

UPDATE: Duke University officials announced this afternoon they have canceled plans to allow the school’s Muslim Student Association to chant their call-to-prayer from the chapel bell tower. The students will instead gather in the campus quad before walking together to a room in the chapel for their weekly prayer meeting.

China detains Christian aid worker on North Korean border

The Chinese government detained an American aid worker who operates on the China-North Korea border on Tuesday, according to the Sydney Morning Herald

American Peter Hahn, 73, who oversees multiple NGO projects in the area, was arrested in Tumen, China, on accusations of embezzlement. Officials reportedly interrogated him for six hours and have not yet released him.
