U.S. officials downplay alleged subway terror plot

The Iraqi prime minister said on Thursday that captured ISIS militants told Iraqi agents about a plot to attack subway systems in the United States and France. U.S. and French officials claim they have no knowledge of such a plot. A senior Obama administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they weren’t aware of any threat, and that the claim was not mentioned during the meeting between President Barack Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi on Wednesday.

Bank that funded terrorism must pay back victims

In a landmark decision, a jury reached a unanimous verdict Monday after two days of deliberation that the large, Jordan-based Arab Bank should be held responsible for Hamas-sanctioned suicide bombings in the early 2000s that killed and wounded several Americans. The trial, held in a federal court in Brooklyn, was the first time a jury found a bank liable for knowingly supporting a terrorist organization, said the plaintiffs’ lawyer Gary Osen.

Scottish independence leader resigns after unity victory

UPDATE (11:20 a.m. EDT): Alex Salmond, the Scottish politician who led the fight for independence announced today he is resigning his post as first minister and stepping down from his party's leadership.

Although gracious in defeat, Salmond hinted the Scots haven't heard the last of him.

“For Scotland the campaign is not over and the dream will never die,” he told reporters.
