Patent office rejects two quirky trademark requests

Ohio State University wanted to start using “The” in large letters on promotional materials and merchandise to distinguish itself from other public universities in the state. NBA star LeBron James wanted to trademark the phrase “Taco Tuesday” because he likes tacos and wants to use the phrase without liability. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied both requests this week.

Oil magnate, megadonor T. Boone Pickens dies

Oil tycoon and philanthropist T. Boone Pickens died on Wednesday at his home in Dallas. He was 91. Family and friends surrounded him at his death, which occurred by natural causes, his spokesman Jay Rosser said.

When the Sisters of St. Francis founded St. Anthony Hospital in the newly built city of Denver in 1892, they likely never envisioned their ministry embroiled in a battle over assisted suicide. Though St. Anthony moved from its original building into a state-of-the-art suburban campus in 2011, the hospital has tried to stay true to its religious roots. It upholds the healthcare directives of the U.S.
