President-elect Joe Biden named Susan Rice as director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, giving her broad sway over immigration and healthcare policy. Rice served as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser and UN ambassador. She worked closely with Biden in those roles and was on his short list of possible running mates during the 2020 campaign.

Israel and Morocco to normalize relations

The Trump administration’s push for Arab-Israeli peace agreements continues. The president on Thursday announced that Morocco agreed to become the fourth Arab nation in four months to establish normal diplomatic ties with Israel.

Canada approves Pfizer vaccine

The United States’ northern neighbors should start getting immunized against the coronavirus within days, and the United Kingdom began rolling out the shots this week. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s independent advisers plan to meet Thursday to debate whether Pfizer and its partner BioNTech have presented sufficient evidence of the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness to grant emergency use authorization. If they approve it as expected, distribution could begin within days.
