Missouri duck boat captain charged in deadly accident

A grand jury indicted the captain of a Missouri tourist boat that sank and killed 17 people in July, charging him with 17 counts of neglect of duty by a ship’s officer resulting in death, federal prosecutors announced Thursday. Kenneth Scott McKee was captaining an amphibious vessel called a duck boat on Table Rock Lake near Branson, Mo., in July when a sudden storm hit, causing the accident. Nine people from an Indiana family were among the victims.

Ginsburg hospitalized after fall

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office Wednesday, fracturing three ribs, the high court announced Thursday. She was admitted for treatment at George Washington University Hospital early Thursday morning after experiencing discomfort overnight. Ginsburg, at 85, is the court’s oldest justice and has served since 1993. She broke two ribs in a fall in 2012 and has fought off cancer twice, in addition to other health struggles, but she has not indicated that she has any plans to step down and has hired clerks for a term extending to 2020.

Some midterm races still up in the air

Though the new balance of power in Congress was decided Tuesday, Republicans and Democrats were still waiting on a few too-close-to-call races Wednesday as they tallied their final seat counts in the House and Senate.
