Pro-Myanmar protesters gathered outside the International Court of Justice in The Hague last week as their country’s leader faced charges of genocide. Many carried placards that read, “We stand with you,” but a smaller group of counterprotesters stood outside the court shouting, “Aung San Suu Kyi, shame on you!”

Pakistan sentences former leader to death

Gen. Pervez Musharraf probably won’t travel back to Pakistan to face the death sentence a court handed down Tuesday. Pakistan charged the former military leader with treason for suspending the nation’s constitution in 2007 and imposing emergency rule to extend his time in office. He has lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, since traveling there on bail to seek medical treatment in 2016, and the two countries do not have a formal extradition treaty.

Pope scraps ‘pontifical secret’ in abuse cases

The Roman Catholic Church will treat accusations, proceedings, and decisions involving clergy abuse with a lower level of confidentiality, Pope Francis announced Tuesday. While in-house legal proceedings still will not be public, the new rule says official secrecy will no longer impede civil law proceedings. Francis also increased the age separating child and adult pornography from 14 to 18.
