Kenyan evangelicals protest upcoming Obama visit

President Barack Obama’s upcoming visit to Kenya sent a small group of protestors to the streets on Monday. Their message to him: Don’t advocate for gay rights in Kenya.

About 35 people attended the demonstration organized by The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya in Nairobi, the country’s capital. Alliance leader Bishop Mark Kariuki said at the protest homosexuality goes against the country’s moral values and sends the wrong message to youths.

Boko Haram attacks continue despite recent arrests

The latest attack by the insurgent group Boko Haram left nearly 100 Muslims dead Wednesday night. A local government official said the militant Nigerian extremists killed 97 people as they prayed in a mosque before breaking their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

Despite the attack, African authorities are reporting some success fighting the terrorists, announcing recent arrests of some Boko Haram members.

Britain deploys counterterrorism police to investigate Tunisian attack

Britain has deployed about 600 counterterrorism police to help investigate Friday’s attack at the Imperial Marhaba Hotel in the Tunisian beach resort town of Sousse. 

A lone gunman killed 38 tourists, 18 of whom were British. Tunisian officials said the number of British deaths could rise as high as 30, making it the worst terrorist attack on British civilians since the London bombings on July 7, 2005.

British Home Secretary Theresa May will go to Tunisia soon for talks on extremist threats.
