Somali forces raid al-Shabaab, Islamic State bases

A Somali commando unit on Wednesday killed at least 15 suspected Islamist fighters in its second crackdown in two days on al-Shabaab bases. The military victories are a boost to anti-terror efforts in the region, but analysts say the war against violent extremists is far from over.

Nearly 50 dead in attacks on Congolese Christian community

Local authorities suspect a Ugandan Islamic terror group has killed nearly 50 people within the past week in the predominantly Christian eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On May 6, attackers killed about 13 people in the province of Ituri, including two members of a local mission, Church on the Rock. Two days earlier, some assailants carrying machetes and axes killed as many as 34 civilians in a late-night attack, according to World Watch Monitor. Official figures revealed eight women, two of them pregnant, and four children died in the attack.

London's new Muslim mayor denounces Trump

London’s first Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, lashed out at Donald Trump today for his proposal to keep Muslims from entering the United States.

Following the attacks by Islamic extremists in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif. last November and December, Trump proposed a complete ban on Muslims coming into the United States. Many Muslim and human rights groups, as well as Trump’s Democratic and Republican rivals, condemned the proposal.
