Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Wednesday said he is putting his resignation on hold. The statement came hours after Hariri returned to Lebanon from abroad, where he shocked the nation by announcing his resignation three weeks ago, plunging the country into political turmoil.

Robert Mugabe resigns after 37 years in power

Robert Mugabe has resigned as the president of Zimbabwe, halting an impeachment process that began earlier Tuesday. National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda stopped the impeachment proceedings after Parliament received a letter from Mugabe that announced his resignation “with immediate effect.” In the letter, Mugabe called his resignation voluntary and said he made the move to ensure a “smooth transfer of power.” The Parliament erupted in cheers following the announcement, while thousands of Zimbabweans took to the streets of Harare, the capital, to celebrate.

Suicide attack in Nigeria kills at least 50 people

ABUJA, Nigeria—A suicide bomber on Tuesday killed at least 50 people after detonating his explosives at a mosque in northeastern Adamawa state. The attack is the deadliest the region has seen in recent years. Bashir Idris Garga, regional coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, told Nigeria’s Premium Times the attacker targeted worshippers in the town of Mubi after their morning prayers. “A boy of about 17 years old, wearing a suicide vest, entered the mosque along with other worshippers immediately after the prayers and detonated the bomb,” he said.
