Religious riots escalate in India

At least 24 people died in three days of fighting between Hindu and Muslim groups in New Delhi. By Wednesday, about 190 people had sustained injuries. Many Muslims fled their homes and shops as Hindu mobs armed with iron rods and sticks set fires and vandalized property. The Delhi region’s chief minister called for the army to help control the situation.

Germany fears hate group renaissance

About 10,000 people marched through the streets of Hanau, Germany, on Sunday carrying Turkish flags and photos of the nine people killed in a mass shooting last week. The attack on migrants stoked fears of a larger problem of far-right violence in the country.

Chinese authorities sentence foreign dissident

A court in eastern China sentenced abducted bookseller Gui Minhai to 10 years in prison. The Chinese-born Swedish citizen operated a bookstore in Hong Kong for years that sold gossipy titles about China’s political leaders. In 2015, he disappeared from his seaside home in Thailand.
